Neurointerventional Radiology

Our faculty provide an integrated surgical and endovascular approach to treating vascular diseases of the brain, head, neck and spine, including stroke, brain aneurysms, vascular malformations, carotid and vertebrobasilar disease and other complex cerebrovascular disorders. We also assess and treat vascular lesions of the spine and spinal CSF leaks.

Our clinical and academic mission is to provide a multidisciplinary team and evidence-based approach tailored to each patient’s presentation and preferences, while educating our trainees and innovating new, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for complex vascular diseases of the brain, head/neck and spine.”

What We Do

 Patient Care

 Education

We offer a one- or two-year specialized training fellowship (non-ACGME accredited) in Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology.

 Research

The Neuroimaging and Neurointerventional research group consists of a diverse group of physicians and sceintists that focus on the assessment and development of novel computer tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) applications for studying neurological and psychiatric diseases. The priorities of this group are to rapidly translate these novel imaging techniques into the clinical environment, increase our understanding of brain, spine, head, and neck diseases, and improve patient care. Neuroimaging physicians and scientists are actively collaborating with colleagues across the Northwestern campus in the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurological Survery, Pediatric Medicine, and Biomedical Engineering.

The Intervenional Neuroradiology group specifically focuses on novel CT/MR/DSA imaging techniques for the assessment of neurovascular and various spine conditions, as well as the development of new minimally invasive treatments in both adults and children. This group has been involved in extensive epidemiological and clinical outcomes research related to neurovascular diseases such as ischemic stroke, cervical/ intracranial atherosclerotic disease, and aneurysms/ vascular malformations. This group participates in several NIH-sponsred clinical trials, NIH-funded studies, and the National Inpatient Sample database research, as well as other large clinical registries for cerebrovascular treatment.
