Imaging Informatics
The Imaging Informatics Section is the computing arm of the Department of Radiology. As such, we have three primary missions:
- We provide technical and operational support to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and the NMH PACS team. We also provide research imaging services to the Northwestern PACS user community.
- We support the computing needs of the faculty radiologists, their staff and the residents. This includes desktop computer and network support. We also provide FTP, e-mail, internal and external Web servers, and research DICOM image archive services.
- We operate the Imaging Informatics research laboratory. The laboratory is a 4000 sqare foot facility, fully equipped for imaging informatics research. We operate a large UNIX server as well as several Windows servers. We also operate two PACS test environments that emulate the clinical PACS at NMH. The section has eight full-time staff and two Master’s level students. There are several undergraduate and medical students working on projects in the lab.
We always have numerous opportunities for students, including the Imaging Informatics fellowship, and are interested in hearing from others who are interested in possible employment opportunities at the Imaging Informatics laboratory.
