What's new

Dear Physician,

Northwestern Radiology has recently acquired several new state-of-the-art imaging modalities in efforts to continually enhance our services and offer "The Best Patient Experience". This includes delivering personalized, high quality care that is focused on your patient’s well being.

New equipment acquisitions provide for cutting edge imaging protocols and a higher volume of exams and procedures in almost every department, which will improve access for your patients. Listed below are some of the exciting changes we want to share with you.

Computed Tomography

The department has recently installed a new dual-source, dual energy Siemens Definition 64-slice scanner, co-located in the Galter Pavilion, 4th floor with our current 64-slice scanner. The new scanner is the fastest available anywhere, and allows our technical staff to continue to provide the latest in CT technology for your patients. Services benefiting from this new installation include: state-of-the-art CT angiography, cardiac and coronary artery CTA studies, renal stone characterization, brain perfusion scans, and multiple other specialized and routine imaging techniques.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The Ontario MRI Facility is the home of our second Siemens Espree open/short bore high-field 1.5T MR scanner. This unique scanner combines an “open” environment beneficial for those patient’s who are claustrophobic, with cutting edge high field imaging protocols for all applications. Additional MR capacity is also available at the Ontario facility and in the Feinberg Pavilion we have recently installed a second high-performance 1.5T Siemens Avanto scanner.

Diagnostic Ultrasound

We have improved access for patients needing diagnostic ultrasounds by adding new patient slots during the day and extending our hours of operation from 7 am to 7 pm Monday through Thursday and 7 am to 5 pm on Friday.

This department, located in the Galter Pavilion, 4th floor, continues to be one of the few departments in the Chicagoland area offering Musculoskeletal Ultrasound performed and interpreted by sub-specialized musculoskeletal radiologists.

General Radiology

Five new CareStream (Kodak) Digital Radiography systems have been added. These systems take image quality and confidence to a new level and have streamlined workflow by eliminating the need for film, as well as decreasing patient wait times. They are located in the Emergency Department and Outpatient Galter Pavilion.

Interventional Radiology

The country’s very first clinical Siemens Miyabi MR/IR combination suite provides our Interventional Radiology team a better picture with superior image quality and enhanced patient outcomes. Specialized minimally invasive services include: cryoablation, MRI guided biopsy, chemo- and radioembolization, and dual modality diagnostic studies using angiography and MR.

Breast Center

The Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center has consolidated screening and diagnostic services and relocated to Northwestern Memorial’s new Prentice Women’s Hospital in October. All mammography is conducted with full-field digital technology. The new facility provides increased capacity with extended evening and Saturday hours.
