The Chicago International Breast Course Sept 11-14, 2008

Northwestern University, The University of Chicago and The Society for the Advancement of Women’s Imaging will once again join together to offer The Chicago International Breast Symposium. Our multidisciplinary speakers are nationally and internationaly recognized leaders in breast cancer detection, diagnosis, and management.

There is a very large convention in Chicago September 8-13, so please make your air and hotel reservation as soon as possible.

Program Description

This program is designed to provide radiologists and other breast and women’s imaging health care professionals with advances in the detection, diagnosis, management, and treatment of breast cancer and benign breast abnormalities. Our focus will be on the impact of new technological advances and interventional procedures. The SAWI course will focus on all areas of women’t imaging.

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of th Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, the University of Chicago, and the Society for the Advancement of Women’s Imaging. Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Hours

The Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 32.50 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Contained with the total number of AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ is the credits associated with each discipline’s requirements:

  • 25 hours are applicable towards fulfillment of MQSA mammography continuing medical education requirements
  • 5.50 hours Digital Mammography
  • 5.75 hours Breast MRI
  • 7.00 hours Breast Ultrasound
  • 0.75 hours Stereotactic Breast
  • 0.75 hours Nuclear Medicine
  • 2.75 hours MRI (non-breast)
  • 1.75 hours Ultrasound (non-breast)
  • 2.25 hours Bone Densitometry

Educational Goals

After attending the course, participants should be able to:

  • Correlate MRI, mammography, and ultrasound findings
  • Assess benign and malignant breast lesions using the ACR BI-RADS® for mammography, US and MRI
  • Integrate breast MRI into their practice
  • Utilize devices for MRI-guided procedures and automated breast ultrasound
  • Recognize indications for and selection of appropriate percutaneous image-guided breast interventional procedures
  • Establish concordance of histopathology with imaging findings
  • Describe the management of high-risk breast lesions and how imaging influences selection of surgical procedures
  • Apply basic physics to the various breast imaging and interventional modalities
  • Optimize new applications of digital mammography, CAD, US, MRI, sestamibi, and PET
  • Prepare digital mammography set-up and performance in the workplace
  • Review connectivity issues involving PACS and other archiving systems
  • Identify the role of CAD in breast imaging modalities – mammography, US, and MRI
  • Describe the role of imaging in the diagnosis and screening of ovarian cancer
